Incarcerated women in Oklahoma will no longer have to worry about sharing sleeping quarters, restrooms, and changing rooms with men.
According to the bill (PDF) Governor Kevin Stitt recently signed into law, a woman forced to share sleeping quarters, restrooms, or changing rooms with a man “has a private cause of action for declaratory and injunctive relief” and “may recover reasonable attorney fees and court costs from the covered entity.”
Invading women’s facilities is a game for men with the sexual fetish of pretending to be women. It’s about power and intimidation. All women, even those in prison, expect privacy in these intimate spaces, away from men, who generally are stronger, taller, faster, and more dangerous. Safety for every individual is paramount.
“States have a duty to protect the privacy and safety of women and girls,” said Sara Beth Nolan, a lawyer at Alliance Defending Freedom. “Letting men intrude into women’s intimate spaces is a denial of the real biological differences between the two sexes and has devastating effects on women. SB 418 ensures that women’s intimate spaces in correctional facilities are protected for women.”
