Ohio Governor Signs Bill That Protects Parents’ Right to Know — No More Secrets!

Governor Mike DeWine of Ohio, who vetoed a bill in January that bans puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones for minors (which the legislature overrode), recently signed a bill into law that protects parental rights in education.

The new law (PDF) requires “public schools to adopt a policy on parental notification on student health and well-being and instructional materials with sexuality content and regarding school district policies for released time courses in religious instruction.”

Under the new law, government schools must tell parents whether their children are caught up in the “transgender” peer-pressured mental health crisis and about “sexuality” instruction content in the classroom. Parents may opt their children out.

Gov. DeWine signed a bill in December that bars boys from using restrooms and changing rooms designated for girls in K-12. The law also bars children of the opposite sex from sharing rooms overnight on school trips.

“Parents know and love their children best, which is why they are best suited to make decisions about their children’s upbringing, education, and care,” said Matt Sharp, director of the Alliance Defending Freedom Center for Public Policy. Thankfully, HB 8 rightfully recognizes this truth as a fundamental right”
