During his first term, President Donald Trump expanded religious liberty protections in the federal government. Now he’s more determined than ever to continue protecting our First Amendment rights to religious freedom and of speech.
The president said in his executive order to eradicate anti-Christian bias in the federal government that the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) under the previous administration “engaged in an egregious pattern of targeting peaceful Christians, while ignoring violent, anti-Christian offenses.” Biden’s administration imprisoned pro-life Christians for praying.
Those days are gone.
“My Administration will not tolerate anti-Christian weaponization of government or unlawful conduct targeting Christians,” President Trump wrote.
The president also issued an executive order creating an Office of Faith in the White House.
“The executive branch wants faith-based entities, community organizations, and houses of worship, to the fullest extent permitted by law, to compete on a level playing field for grants, contracts, programs, and other Federal funding opportunities,” the order reads.
President Trump extended protections to Christian organizations and individuals during his first term. For example, he created the Religious Liberty Task Force in DOJ and a division in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) called Conscience and Religious Freedom.
The division in HHS protected religious individuals and groups whose beliefs conflict with government regulations, like mandating that doctors kill unborn babies or participate in “transgender” procedures.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Attorney General William Barr issued a letter to prosecutors urging them to be diligent in protecting Americans’ constitutional rights after state and local governments ordered churches to close or limit gatherings. The DOJ issued letters of support in cases where churches have sued the government to protect their rights.
Now President Trump has returned and will continue to protect people of faith at home and abroad.
