Which States Protect Girls’ and Women’s Privacy, Safety, and Fair Competition in Sports — And Which States Don’t

Defending Education tracks which states have enacted laws to protect girls’ and women’s sense of modesty, privacy, and safety.

President Donald Trump barred schools and educational programs that receive federal dollars from allowing boys and men to join girls’ and women’s sports teams or use their restrooms and locker rooms.

According to Defending Education, lawmakers in a majority of states protect girls and women. Thirty-two states, mostly red, have enacted such laws, although court action has temporarily blocked two.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit Court last year blocked West Virginia’s version of the law.

Lawmakers in 18 states chose not to protect girls’ and women’s sense of modesty, privacy, and safety. Michigan, which voted for President Trump, nevertheless chose not to protect them.
