Trump to Protect Babies Born Alive After Botched Abortions

Life is precious, and we humans have a right to live and to defend ourselves. But unborn babies cannot protect their right to live. They depend on others, especially their mothers, to shield them from harm and death.

Various states have passed laws to protect babies who’ve survived abortion attempts. One can’t expect an abortionist to protect a baby the mother doesn’t want, but if the baby survives an attempt on his life, the abortionist, who presumably is a doctor, should administer life-saving measures so the baby continues to breath.

To make sure abortionists try to save babies born alive, President Donald Trump intends to issue an Executive Order to that effect. From the Free Beacon:

“We believe in the joy of family, the blessing of freedom, and the dignity of work, and the eternal truth that every child, born and unborn, is made in the holy image of God,” Trump said during his address at the National Catholic Prayer Breakfast. “I will always protect the vital role of religion and prayer in American society and I will always defend the sacred right to life.”

Trump’s executive order comes after congressional Democrats blocked a legislative amendment in February that would have protected abortion survivors. Sen. Ben Sasse (R., Neb.) also proposed the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, a law that would mandate medical care for infants who survive late-term abortions, but the Democratic minority filibustered it in February.

President Trump might have been prompted to take this executive action after Virginia lawmakers debated a bill last year that would have allowed abortions even if the woman was in labor. From the Washington Times:

“If a mother is in labor, I can tell you exactly what would happen,” said [Gov. Ralph] Northam a former pediatric neurologist. “The infant would be delivered. The infant would be kept comfortable. The infant would be resuscitated if that’s what the mother and the family desired, and then a discussion would ensue between the physicians and the mother.
