Where's the Outrage Over MTV's Incest Show?

Is MTV seriously promoting incest to attract the teenage audience?

We are the proverbial frogs in the slow boiling pot of water. We sit still while we are being slowly cooked. Liberals and Hollywood in particular are fundamentally transforming our societal norms to a new normal-INCEST.

MTV’s new show “Happyland” has a teen story line that explores the underbelly of the operations of a popular theme park. However, the lead character, Lucy, falls for Ian, who is the show’s “hottie” and son of the theme park’s owner. They kiss and “make out.”

Like in HBO’s “Game of Thrones,” the producer’s big surprise is that they are brother and sister. In the press junket, Bianca Santos, who plays Lucy, said, “Incest is hot, and we’re going to have fun!”

While the show creator, Ben Epstein, fudged the intent of the incest subplot as merely a hook for the viewers, MTV clearly believes it’s okay to use such an immoral twist to attract viewers. MTV doesn’t understand there is a difference between “having an edge” and “falling off of the edge.”

The larger societal question is whether or not incest would actually attract teenagers. It seems the attraction to base and untoward behavior is being fed to our children. We are in a time where the younger generation gets its cues from the likes of MTV and not us-their parents. In others words, MTV is telling our youth what is acceptable behavior and what is not. To even flirt with the idea of being attracted to one’s sibling should be repulsive. If we let MTV tell the story, it now becomes intriguing. Then what?

“Happyland” will air in September 2014, and I have not previewed one episode. However, if we sit back and let MTV woo our teenagers with anything they think is hot and sexy, we only have ourselves to blame.

Many boycotted Phil Robertson and Duck Dynasty (A&E) for having a Bible-based opinion about sexual behavior. MTV plans to capitalize on what is widely believed as abhorrent behavior by the religious and the irreligious, and I have not heard a whimper from either crowd against this show. I say BOYCOTT MTV and “Happyland” now! It is poison to the next generation.
