Government to Pastors: Hand Over Your Sermons on Homosexuality

smaller crossThis story is alarming. Every Christian, even the so-called liberal variety, should not stay silent about this.

From time to time, I make the point that one day, it will be against the law for Christ followers to share the Gospel and to call sin by its name. Has that day arrived? The city of Houston has a “non-discrimination” ordinance. That means individuals, including business owners, who are in conflict with the homosexual lobby’s quest to stifle dissent, are subject to government fines. Freedom of religion and speech are at stake.

According to Fox News, the city of Houston has subpoenaed a group of pastors, ordering them to turn over sermons that address homosexuality — one sin among many. Will the government order pastors to turn over sermons about lying, stealing, adultery, and murder?

The Alliance Defending Freedom, which represents Christians and faith-based organizations, calls the move “both needless and unprecedented.” Attorney Christina Holcomb added that the government and its lawyers “are engaging in an inquisition designed to stifle any critique of its actions.”

Is God removing His hand of restraint? This is only the beginning. The one thing Christians must not do in the face of this onslaught of tyranny is cave. Stand strong for the Gospel, in Christ, and remember His words:

“If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. Remember the word that I said to you, ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you. If they kept My word, they will keep yours also. But all these things they will do to you for My name’s sake, because they do not know Him who sent Me.” – John 15:18-21
