These Conservatives Oppose Repealing the Hyde Amendment — And Urge Others to Do the Same

Star Parker, founder and president of the Center for Urban Renewal and Education (CURE), joined other high-profile conservatives in signing a letter to oppose repealing the Hyde Amendment.

This measure, which bars the federal government from using taxpayers’ money to fund abortions, has had bipartisan support for almost 50 years.

The Democratic majority in Congress wants to repeal it.

An excerpt of the letter:

The Hyde amendment and its related policies are estimated to have saved the lives of 2.4 million babies since its inception. Revoking the Hyde amendment, and upending the bipartisan consensus that has supported its application, is a drastic step that shreds any vestige or pretense that Democrats are anything but radically pro-abortion.

We urge all conservatives, and anyone who values the sanctity and dignity of human life from conception until natural death, to oppose spending legislation which does not contain the Hyde amendment and key related pro-life policies.

Other conservatives who’ve signed the letter include the Honorable Edwin Meese III, Attorney General in the Reagan administration from 1985 to 1988; Alfred S. Regnery, Chairman of the Conservative Action Project and President, Republic Book Publishers; Tony Perkins President Family Research Council; Thomas Fitton President, Judicial Watch, Inc.; Marty Dannenfelser, Director of Governmental Relations at CURE; Ken Blackwell Chairman of the Constitutional Congress Chairman, Kristan Hawkins, President Students for Life of America; Marc Little, Executive Director of CURE America Action, Inc, Mat Staver, Chairman of Liberty Counsel; Dr. Jerry A. Johnson, President (2013-2019) of National Religious Broadcasters; and Scott Walker, President of Young America’s Foundation.
