Sen. Ted Cruz Grills AG Merrick Garland About His Memo on Investigating Concerned and Outspoken Parents

U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland testified before a Senate Judiciary Committee on Wednesday, where Senator Ted Cruz and other lawmakers grilled him about the memo (PDF) he wrote in response to the National School Boards Association’s (NSBA) letter (PDF) to President Joe Biden.

NSBA president Viola M. Garcia and Interim Executive Director and CEO Chip Slaven asked the president to investigate parents they claimed threatened members of local school boards under the Patriot Act.

The NSBA’s board of directors apologized to members for the letter. On that basis, lawmakers have asked the attorney general to withdraw his memo. Watch the exchange between him and Sen. Cruz.
