BCN Essay Contest for $5,000 Cash Prize

Black Community News (BCN), part of Star Parker’s Center for Urban Renewal and Education (CURE), is a news and commentary site created to inform and engage conservative Christians and support CURE’s mission to fight poverty and restore dignity through messages of faith, freedom, and personal responsibility.

BCN announces an essay contest, with a $5,000 cash prize for the best essay that discusses the question, “What good have Neo-progressives done for the Black man?”

The purpose of the essay contest is to give writers an opportunity to think through and examine the important cultural and political questions facing black Americans today and for the winner to receive recognition of his or her work.

Select essays will be published on BCN and promoted through BCN’s and CURE’s social media pages.

Essay Contest Question:

“What good have Neo-progressives done for the Black man?” Your essay should reference the Progressive Era that began in the 1890s to neo-progressivism in the Joe Biden era.

Contest Rules:

Essays should be in basic essay format, with a word count between 2000 – 2500
Essays must be double-spaced
Essays must be in English
Essays must be original and unpublished
Essays must be written by one person — no co-authored essays
Essays will be mailed to a physical address — no emailed entries
Include a brief bio and your contact information

Contest Prize:

The winner of the best essay will win $5,000

Essay Deadline:

All entries must be received by Monday, August 31, 2020
