Gun Grabbers in Illinois Won’t Like What This Court Just Did

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

Liberal lawmakers in Deerfield, Illinois, likely protected by people with guns, want to disarm law-abiding residents.

They passed a city ordinance to confiscate “assault” weapons. Residents must turn in semi-automatic rifles and some handguns and shotguns. Those who don’t would face government penalties of up to $1,000 a day.

The ordinance would have gone into effect on Wednesday, but a circuit court just issued a temporary injunction against it.

The Second Amendment Foundation, the Free Beacon reported, contended that the ordinance violates an earlier one, which mandated that new gun laws must be passed at state level, not local. An excerpt:

“We moved swiftly to challenge this gun ban because it flew in the face of state law,” Alan Gottlieb, founder of the group, said in a statement. “The village tried to disguise its extremism as an amendment to an existing ordinance. The ordinance bans possession of legally-owned semi-auto firearms, with no exception for guns previously owned, or any provision for self-defense. Worse, still, the ordinance also provided for confiscation and destruction of such firearms and their original capacity magazines.”

He went on to say the Deerfield gun ban was evidence that at least some gun-control advocates do want to take people’s guns away.
