NCAA Gives Up the Ghost — Bans Men from Competing on Women’s Sports Teams

The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) allowed a man who grew his hair longer and called himself Lia Thomas to compete in the 2022 NCAA swimming championship as a member of a women’s team.

The women he raced, women who trained and sacrificed to qualify for the competition, knew they had no chance of bringing home a championship…unless Thomas allowed them to win.

Thomas easily beat the women in the 500-yard freestyle race. He could have done the same for all the races but decided to hold back, mostly likely for optics. Thomas tied for fifth place with the outspoken defender of women’s sports, Riley Gaines, in the 200-yard freestyle. He also threw the 100-yard freestyle race.

The NCAA used to require men who wanted to compete against women in college sports to take testosterone-suppressing drugs for a year before they’re eligible. Thanks to President Donald Trump, who has barred such nonsense in schools and educational programs that receive federal money, the NCAA has changed its mind.

In fact, the NCAA has banned men from competing on sports teams, regardless of how long they’ve taken testosterone-suppressing drugs. But the organization made a half-in-half-out, please-don’t-cancel-us move. An excerpt (emphases added):

The new policy limits competition in women’s sports to student-athletes assigned female at birth only. The policy permits student-athletes assigned male at birth to practice with women’s teams and receive benefits such as medical care while practicing. This policy is effective immediately and applies to all student-athletes regardless of previous eligibility reviews under the NCAA’s prior transgender participation policy.

“Assigned at birth” is absurd and unscientific. And allowing men to practice with women still puts women in danger, but at least men are barred from stealing women’s victories.

Men who suppress testosterone are still men, and they’re still strong, taller, and faster than women. They still have larger hearts and greater lung capacity. And on and on. No one needs to be convinced of this, but people have measured the differences. According to the British Journal of Sports Medicine, men pretending to be women…wait for it…still have huge advantages over women.

“HUGE WIN: Until now, NCAA’s participation policy allowed men who self-identified as women to take trophies, roster spots, resources, & opportunities to compete from women,” the Independent Women’s Forum wrote on X.

Will the NCAA revoke Thomas’ victories, metals, and record following the policy change? The organization should make the change retroactive. One thing the NCAA definitely should do is issue an apology to all female athletes for nominating Thomas “Woman of the Year.”
