The Supreme Court is Unanimous — Trump Can Remain on the Colorado State Ballot

Boy, they hate Trump. I mean, they really hate Trump.

Leftists are doing whatever they can to keep former President Donald Trump from running for president a third time. And they are willing to circumvent the U.S. Constitution to do it.

A group of voters in Colorado filed a lawsuit to exclude President Trump from the presidential ballot and for the state to disregard any write-in votes.

The plaintiffs cited Section 3 of the Fourteenth Amendment to support their argument. Section 3 bars anyone who’s taken any oath of office and engaged in insurrection or rebellion from running for elected office. (Aside from the fact that former President Trump has not been convicted of engaging in an insurrection or rebellion…)

Section 3 was put in place to stop any former Confederates from returning to power and threatening the Union again.

The Colorado Supreme Court agreed with the voters and barred President Trump from appearing on the ballot. The U.S. Supreme Court justices on Monday unanimously reversed (PDF) that decision.

The Constitution’s Section 5, the court contended, gives the U.S. Congress the power to pass legislation to enforce the Fourteenth Amendment. The court wrote that states “have no power under the Constitution to enforce Section 3 with respect to federal offices, especially the Presidency.”

The president of the United States is a federal officer, and, therefore, cannot be removed from the ballot by a state. The Supreme Court’s ruling effectively bars other states from excluding President Trump from state ballots.

There is no doubt that the Supreme Court’s decision — with all nine justices agreeing — has leftists more nervous than the results of the latest Times-Siena polls (conducted by the New York Times and Siena College).

The recent Times-Siena polls revealed some bad news for them. The majority of President Biden’s voters from 2020 say he’s too old to be effective as president. President Trump is four years younger than the president at 77. From last week’s New York Times:

This unease, which has long surfaced in polls and in quiet conversations with Democratic officials, appears to be growing as Mr. Biden moves toward formally capturing his party’s nomination.

The New York Times is still reporting results from the polls — and leftists won’t like it (emphasis added):

And despite holding intensely and similarly critical opinions both of President Biden and of his predecessor, Americans have much more positive views of Donald J. Trump’s policies than they do of Mr. Biden’s, according to New York Times/Siena College polls.

The chief concern for voters seems to be the economy.

Polls are mere snapshots of how potential voters are feeling at the moment. Many things can change between now and November. And even though leftist voters think President Biden is too old, they’ll still vote for him — because they hate Donald Trump.

  1. Thankfully the Supreme Court has protected both the Constitution and any future candidate for the Presidency. There should also be a process for those that fought to defend the candidate to recoup all the monies spnt to include attorney’s fees.
Those responsible for the initiation of the lawsuit and the State that approved this political interference should be responsible for the reimbursement.
