Leftists Should Like What the Trump Administration Just Did for Black Colleges — But They Probably Won’t

The Trump administration has redirected close to $500 million to Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and tribally controlled colleges and universities.

The U.S. Department of Education (ED) announced on Monday that it also redirected close to $60 million for charter schools and $137 million toward American history and civics grants. From ED:

These investments will be repurposed from programs that the Department determined are not in the best interest of students and families. The Department is using existing flexibilities in discretionary grant programs to advance President Trump’s priorities and targeting resources toward the most effective interventions to bolster educational outcomes.

“The Department has carefully scrutinized our federal grants, ensuring that taxpayers are not funding racially discriminatory programs but those programs which promote merit and excellence in education,” said Linda McMahon, ED secretary. “The Trump Administration will use every available tool to meaningfully advance educational outcomes and ensure every American has the opportunity to succeed in life.”

President Donald Trump did something similar in his first term. He signed an executive order that increased funding for HBCUs. Were black liberals impressed? They definitely were not impressed with Barack Obama when it came to HBCUs.

“They say the Ivy League-educated, professorial president has shown scant understanding of the challenges their schools face, and charge he has kept them at arm’s length during his presidency.” (Politico)
